Sarah had a little fun with her upstairs bathroom. Serving as the kids' and guest bathroom toilet paper dispenser and a Pinterest image. Here's a before picture of the space. (Sarah and her kids happened upon this quirky toilet paper dispenser a while back at Hobby Lobby and it basically all went downhill (or should we say uphill!) from there. She knew that having fun with this bathroom was a must so her guests and kids would enjoy it. When she came across this image on Pinterest it was a no-brainer. She set out to create a moody, eclectic bathroom with a slight nautical theme..Working on a small budget, she knew that she didn't want to spend any money on new light fixtures and mirrors so she spray painted those items with her favorite spray paint in Satin Bronze. She also utilized the power of paint (its one of your Top 5 ways to transform a space)....she decided to take a stab at painting her faucets! Yes - painting them. She found this awesome tutorial from Lauren and Robert at blesserhouse.com (linked here) and got to work. We're happy to report that they've held up for a few months now! The final step was to paint the walls. Picking a moody blue was rather easy. She found a paint swatch that matched the blue countertop pedestal that was being used and bought a gallon of Valspar Mountain River 4005-6C in a satin finish for the walls. For the DIYers out there - these are her go-to supplies for cutting in all around the corners and cabinets and ceiling. The Handy Paint Pail has a magnet on the inside of the pail to hold your brush and a large handle on the outside to make it easy to hold without getting a hand cramp. This Wooster Brush is great for cutting in and getting small spaces. After the painting was done, it was time to hang the existing oval mirrors and get to finishing that mirror wall from the inspiration image above. The great thing about the mirror wall was that there were zero rules. She hit up her local flea market with her kids and got to picking out every small mirror she could find. The more character the better! Once they got them home it was time to arrange them how she saw fit. Think gallery wall - but with mirrors. She then painted two murals on the walls to add some whimsey. This was done using the same wall color (Valspar Mountain River) in a matte finish with the slightest touch of white so the final product popped a bit off the wall but wasn't too over-bearing. Her kids love sea turtles so painting a sea turtle was a must! And she just had to add octopus arms to tie all the octopus items together. The shell art is homemade too! They took their large shell collection and made them into art by gluing them onto painted foam core and getting shadowbox frames to finish them. Once the final touches were added (we love the hands for their hand towels) it was time for the big reveal. The kids are in love with the new bathroom and we just love how it turned out! Remember: when recreating a space in your home - don't be afraid to have a little fun with it and break the "rules." After all - it's your home and no one else's. Don't ever under estimate the power of paint too! Complete list of sources:
