Don't Overthink It

Small Changes, Big Impact: Why You Don’t Need to Overthink Your SpaceWhen people think about redoing a room, they often jump straight to big, expensive overhauls—new furniture, tearing out walls, full-on renovations. But here’s the thing: transformation doesn’t always mean starting from scratch. In fact, little changes can go a long way when it comes to refreshing a space.
Think of it like this: your home is constantly evolving with you. So sometimes, all it takes is a small shift to bring new energy into a room.
Start with furniture rotation.
You’d be amazed how different a space can feel just by rearranging the layout. Moving a chair to another corner, angling your sofa differently, or switching your bedside tables can make a room feel fresh—without spending a dime. It also helps you see the room’s potential in a new light (literally—sometimes that chair looks so much better by the window).
We had this client flip their living room which was the perfect to create this focal wall piece where the television could be. It also created a much better visual when entering the space form the foyer.
New color, new vibe.
Never underestimate the power of paint. Changing a wall color—even just one accent wall—can shift the entire mood of a room. Want a cozy, grounded feel? Try a warm, earthy tone. Craving something calm and airy? A soft sage or misty blue might be your best friend. You don’t have to repaint the whole house—start with one room, or even one wall, and go from there.
Statement updates.
If you're up for something a little more hands-on, swap out a backsplash, change a light fixture, or update cabinet hardware. These are all high-impact elements that don’t require a full remodel. A new backsplash in the kitchen or powder room can completely change the space’s personality, and there are so many budget-friendly options now that look like a million bucks.
Don’t overthink it.
Design doesn’t have to be dramatic to be meaningful. Often, it’s the subtle, thoughtful touches that make a space feel like you. If something doesn’t feel quite right in your home, try tweaking one small thing before jumping into big decisions. Shift something. Paint something. Add a plant. You’ll be surprised how far those tiny adjustments can take you.
Your home should work with your life—not add more to your to-do list. So if you’ve been itching for a change but don’t know where to start, just remember: start small, stay curious, and let the little things lead the way.

What Goes Above Your Dresser?

5/9/2025

Ah, the dresser—a hardworking, storage-savvy staple of the bedroom. But let’s talk about that neglected patch of wall above it. You know, the one that’s either screaming for attention or drowning in an oversized, uninspired mirror. Why let all that vertical real estate go to waste when you can turn it into a stunning, functional focal point?
Depending on your storage needs (or your love for aesthetics), the space above your dresser can be purely decorative, highly practical, or a little bit of both. Let’s explore some fresh and stylish ways to elevate this area!
Picture
Picture
The Statement Mirror (Because Some Classics Never Fade)

A large mirror is the tried-and-true go-to—and for good reason! It reflects light, making your space feel bigger and brighter, and let’s be real, it’s pretty convenient for last-minute outfit checks. Go bold with an ornate vintage mirror, sleek with a minimalist round one, or edgy with an asymmetrical design. Want to mix it up? Try layering smaller decorative objects in front of it for a curated, effortless look.

A Gallery Wall: A Little Bit of You, on Display

Why settle for one piece of art when you can have an entire collection? A gallery wall above your dresser gives you the freedom to showcase your favorite prints, photos, and even unconventional items like woven textiles or decorative plates. Mix and match frames for an eclectic feel, or keep it cohesive with a monochromatic theme. Bonus tip: Lay out your arrangement on the floor before hammering nails into your wall—your future self will thank you.
Leaning Art and Objects: The No-Commitment ApproachIf the idea of hammering things into your walls makes you cringe, consider leaning art, mirrors, or decorative pieces against the wall instead. Layer different sizes for a relaxed, artsy look. It’s effortlessly chic and gives you the freedom to switch things up whenever the mood strikes.

Floating Shelves: Chic and FunctionalWhen you need storage but refuse to sacrifice style, floating shelves are your best friend. Stagger them for an artsy vibe, or keep them aligned for a structured, modern feel. Use them to display books, small potted plants, framed art, or even stylish storage baskets. Think of it as a vertical playground for your personality!

A Single Oversized Art Piece for Instant Drama

Sometimes, bigger really is better. If you’re drawn to a clean, uncluttered aesthetic, an oversized painting or print might be your best bet. Whether it’s an abstract canvas, a serene landscape, or a bold portrait, a large piece of art can command attention and set the tone for your entire space.
Picture
Hooked on Hooks: Hanging Storage with FlairNeed a little extra functionality? Install decorative hooks or a peg rail above your dresser to hang jewelry, scarves, or even small baskets. This option keeps everyday essentials within reach while adding a stylish, structured element to your wall.
Final Thoughts: Make It Yours! The key to styling the space above your dresser? Make it a reflection of you! Whether you go full gallery wall, stick to a single statement piece, or mix and match elements, this area has the potential to be more than just blank space—it can be a personal, stylish extension of your home.
Now, go forth and style with confidence! And if you ever find yourself staring at your dresser wall in decorating despair, just remember: there’s no rule that says you can’t change things up whenever inspiration strikes.

Organize with Style

Staying organized and maintaining a stylish home is totally achievable with a few clever strategies that blend function and aesthetics. Here are some ideas:
1. Invest in Dual-Purpose Furniture
  • Look for ottomans with hidden storage, coffee tables with lift-up tops, or beds with drawers underneath. These pieces keep things tidy while adding to your decor.
  • Stylish storage benches in entryways or at the foot of the bed can provide hidden organization while anchoring a room.
This vintage ammo crate turned coffee table stores seasonal decor so it can be quickly changed out. The storage bench at the foot of the bed has bed linens and an extra blanker for those colder nights.
2. Use Decorative Bins and Baskets
  • Wicker, fabric, or metallic bins can add texture and color while keeping clutter contained. Use them for toys, throws, or magazines.
  • Label baskets discreetly (with tags or chalkboard paint) for easy access without compromising the look.
3. Showcase Beautiful Storage
  • Glass jars for pantry staples, open shelving with neatly arranged items, or colorful books on display can create functional art.
  • Stackable acrylic organizers in closets look modern and let you see what you have while staying organized.
Decorative baskets can work to corral items (like sunglasses) or to star keepsakes.
4. Create Zones for Everything
  • Assign specific areas for different activities: a reading nook, a charging station, or a drop zone by the entryway.
  • Incorporate stylish trays or bowls for smaller items like keys, wallets, or jewelry to contain clutter.
5. Lean Into Built-Ins or Custom Cabinetry
  • Custom shelving or built-ins make the most of your space, blending seamlessly with your home’s design while giving you ample storage.
  • Use uniform finishes, like wood tones or painted cabinetry, to maintain a cohesive aesthetic.
Picture

6. Incorporate Stylish Hooks and Racks
  • Choose hooks with personality—brass, matte black, or funky ceramic designs—for coats, bags, or towels.
  • Use pegboards in an office or craft room, customizing colors to match your decor.
7. Rotate Seasonal Items
  • Keep out only what you need for the current season. Store out-of-season items in stylish bins or under-the-bed storage. This reduces visual clutter and makes your home feel lighter.
8. Display Minimalist Decor
  • Avoid overcrowding shelves or countertops. Stick to a curated selection of decor items like vases, art, or books that double as style elements.
  • Use symmetry and negative space to keep things visually balanced.
Picture
9. Use Vertical Space
  • Install shelves, hooks, or cabinets higher up to make the most of walls. This draws the eye upward and creates more storage.
  • Tall bookcases or leaning ladders can look elegant while maximizing storage.

10. Maintain a System
  • Regularly edit your belongings, keeping only what you love and use.
  • Incorporate stylish planners or command centers that match your decor to help you stay on top of daily organization.
A blend of style and practicality makes any home feel intentional and livable. Which of these ideas speaks to your design style? 😊

The Open Floor Plan Decor Dilemma

4/18/2025

An open floor plan is like throwing a party where every room is invited — great in theory, but without a little coordination, things can get messy fast. The secret to making your space feel like a well-orchestrated symphony (instead of a chaotic free-for-all) lies in weaving elements throughout each area that create continuity, while still letting each space have its own personality.
Picture
This design board covered three spaces but still incorporated navy and cream elements. We especially love the crystal light in the foyer that coordinated with the dining chandelier AND the black elements in the space.
One of the easiest ways to keep the peace in an open floor plan is through color. Repeating a consistent color palette across different spaces — whether through wall colors, textiles, or accent pieces — helps tie everything together. Think of it like dressing your home in an outfit that matches without looking like you tried too hard. If your living room rocks earthy green throw pillows, toss that same color into your dining area with upholstered chairs or a vase. It’s like a little visual handshake between rooms.
This client's open floor plan needed a pop of color and her space to feel pulled together. She requested a digital rendering to see our design plan implemented into her space.  You can see we added navy blue not just in paint, but in elements like lighting, textiles and bar stools. We also added in a layer of green with faux plants, throw pillows. She already had a great neutral layer in the space with her main furniture items
Patterns are another way to keep your space from feeling like a design tug-of-war. You don’t need to go full matchy-matchy, but choosing complementary prints with similar shapes or motifs creates a subtle rhythm. Imagine a geometric area rug in the living room winking at kitchen curtains with a similar pattern — just enough to show they’re on the same team without being twinsies.
Wood tones can also save your open floor plan from feeling like a furniture showroom. Mixing a few different finishes adds depth and character, but it’s all about balance. If your dining table is a rich walnut, try a lighter wood coffee table in the living area, with shelves or frames that echo the darker walnut tone. It’s like a little wood tone dance party, and everyone’s invited.
Picture
This design board is a perfect example of  using patterns and wood tones to tie a space together. We used the existing brick arch that was located their foyer area and brought it into their new kitchen cabinets in a warm wood as an accent.
Decor pieces are the final sprinkle of magic that stitch a space together. Repeating elements like metallic finishes, woven textures, or similar shapes across different areas is like leaving breadcrumbs of style. A set of ceramic vases popping up in both the kitchen and living room, or using the same style of picture frame throughout, creates subtle continuity — like a secret handshake only your home knows.
All of these 'S' decor pieces can be found throughout this client's home.
An open floor plan is full of potential, and by intentionally repeating colors, patterns, wood tones, and decor elements, you can create a home that feels effortlessly connected. It’s about finding the balance between flow and individuality, so your home feels like a thoughtfully curated experience — not a chaotic design potluck.

Clutter Free, Stress Free

4/11/2025

Removing clutter from your home is one of the most powerful, underrated ways to relieve stress. It’s not just about tidiness—it’s about creating a supportive, peaceful environment that makes daily life feel lighter.  Let's talk about the benefits of clutter-free counter tops.
Picture
1. Visual Calm
Clutter creates visual noise, which can overwhelm your brain. Clear countertops provide a sense of order and simplicity, making it easier for your mind to relax and focus.
2. Easier Cleaning
When countertops are clear, they’re easier to wipe down, reducing the effort needed to keep them clean. A clean space often translates to a clearer mind.
3. Enhanced Productivity
A clutter-free environment minimizes distractions, allowing you to focus on cooking, organizing, or just enjoying your space. It helps you feel more in control of your environment.
4. Stress-Free Morning Routines
If your counters are clutter-free, finding what you need (like your coffee maker or breakfast essentials) becomes easier. Starting the day without the stress of hunting for items sets a positive tone.
5. Improved Mental Clarity
Living in a cluttered space can subconsciously signal chaos. Clean countertops represent order, creating a sense of peace and balance.
Think of your countertops as a blank canvas—it’s easier to create and enjoy life when you’re not fighting through clutter!
Picture
Your bedroom is your sanctuary—your retreat from the chaos of the world. When it’s cluttered, it can actually mess with your ability to rest and recharge. Here’s why a clutter-free bedroom = a calmer, happier you:
1. Better Sleep Quality

Visual clutter = mental clutter. When your brain is constantly processing the mess around you, it can be harder to wind down. A tidy space sends the message: “It’s safe to relax now.”
2. A Calm Start and End to Your Day
Waking up to piles of clothes or a crowded nightstand can immediately trigger stress or overwhelm. A clean space helps you start the day with clarity and end it with peace.
3. Reduces Anxiety
Studies have actually linked clutter with higher levels of cortisol (the stress hormone). A tidy room can help reduce that constant underlying tension and make you feel more emotionally balanced.
4. More Functional, Less Frustrating
When everything has its place, you're not wasting time digging through drawers or stepping over laundry piles. That little sense of control and efficiency? Super calming.
5. It Feels Like You’re Taking Care of You

A clean, clutter-free bedroom shows you’re prioritizing your own comfort and mental wellbeing. It becomes a little act of self-care every time you make the bed or clear off a surface.
Basically, a clutter-free bedroom is like a warm hug for your nervous system. It doesn’t have to be Pinterest-perfect—just simple, breathable, and intentional. Want help creating a calming bedroom vibe? I’d be totally into that.
Picture
Clutter-free playrooms are huge for both kids and the adults around them. A calm, organized play space isn’t just about aesthetics—it actually supports healthier development and a more peaceful household. Here's the breakdown:
For the kiddos:
1. Encourages Focus + Creativity
Too many toys at once = overstimulation. When the space is decluttered and toys are rotated or organized, kids are more likely to engage deeply with what’s in front of them. Less chaos = more meaningful play.
2. Promotes Independence
When everything has a home, kids can clean up and find things by themselves. It teaches responsibility, confidence, and gives them a sense of ownership over their space.
3. Reduces Overwhelm
Just like adults, kids feel overwhelmed in a chaotic environment. A clutter-free playroom helps them feel calm and safe, making it easier to regulate emotions and behavior.
4. Supports Better Learning
Whether they’re doing puzzles, pretend play, or crafts, kids concentrate better when they’re not surrounded by visual noise. Simpler spaces support deeper learning.
And now for the Adults!
1. Easier to MaintainA simplified space with smart storage means less time picking up or managing the mess. That frees up your energy and mental space, which = way less stress.
2. Reduces “Stuff Guilt”
So many parents feel guilty about the clutter—like they should be doing a better job keeping up. A tidy playroom helps ditch that guilt and brings in some peaceful, positive vibes instead.
3. Makes Transitions Smoother
Whether it’s time to eat, nap, or leave the house, kids transition better from a calm space. Less clutter = fewer meltdowns and smoother routines.
4. Creates a More Harmonious Home
When the playroom feels calm and intentional, it spills over into the rest of the home. You’re not just managing toys—you’re creating an environment that supports everyone’s well-being.
In short, a clutter-free playroom isn’t about being Pinterest-perfect—it’s about setting up a space that works with your kids’ needs and helps you breathe easier too.
Picture
You might not hang out in your closet, but you interact with it every single day, and when it's organized, everything just flows better. Here's why:
1. Decision Fatigue Goes Down

Mornings are smoother when you're not digging through random piles or wondering where that one shirt went. A tidy closet makes it easier to see what you have and make decisions without stress.
2. Boosts Your Mood
Opening your closet and seeing it neat and curated can actually give you a little serotonin bump. It feels good to have your stuff together—it’s like your day starts with a small win.
3. Saves Time (and Sanity)
How many times have you run late because you couldn’t find something? Clutter-free closets cut down on that frantic search-and-rescue mission. Everything is right where you expect it to be.
4. Less Overwhelm = More Confidence
Clutter can subconsciously make you feel out of control or weighed down. When your closet feels streamlined, it creates a sense of lightness and calm that can actually boost your confidence.
5. You Only Keep What You Love
An organized closet usually means you’ve let go of the “meh” stuff, and kept what fits your life and style now. That intentionality is super empowering—it reinforces that you're making space for things that serve you.
It’s like a mini sanctuary inside your sanctuary. And the best part? Once it’s set up right, it’s way easier to maintain. Want to talk closet systems or how to make it look boutique-y without the stress? I’m all in.
Picture
Oh yes—clutter-free mudrooms are seriously underrated stress relievers. That space is your home’s first impression and transition zone, and when it's chaotic, it can throw off your whole vibe. A clean, organized mudroom creates a sense of calm before you even step into the rest of the house. Here's why it matters:
1. Smooth Exits + Entrances = Calmer Days
When shoes, bags, keys, and coats all have a home, you're not scrambling to find things during the morning rush. It takes the chaos out of coming and going, which is a huge win for reducing daily stress.
2. It Sets the Tone for the Whole House
Walking into a cluttered mudroom can feel like walking into a storm. A tidy space, on the other hand, immediately creates a sense of order and control—and that energy follows you inside.
3. Helps Contain the Mess
Mudrooms are like your home’s filter. When they’re organized, they help keep dirt, backpacks, random shoes, and general chaos contained. That means less mess spreading throughout the house—and less mental load for you.
4. Encourages Consistent Habits
When everything has a place (hooks, bins, baskets—yes please), it’s easier for everyone to stick to routines. Kids can hang their backpacks, drop their shoes, and put things away without constant reminders.
5. Reduces Visual Clutter = Reduces Mental Clutter
Even though it’s a “functional” space, visual clutter in a mudroom can still create that low-grade anxiety. A clean setup helps your brain chill out—especially when you’re arriving home after a long day.
Think of the mudroom as a little buffer zone between the outside world and your personal sanctuary. When it’s calm and clutter-free, it helps you stay calm too.
Picture
Whether it's a home office, studio corner, or just your desk, the way that space feels directly affects your mindset. Here’s why clearing the clutter can seriously calm your brain:
1. Boosts Focus + Cuts Distractions
Every little thing in your line of sight is asking for your attention. When your workspace is clear, your brain isn’t juggling visual chaos—it can actually focus on the task at hand.
2. Helps You Feel More in Control
A tidy desk gives you a sense of control over your environment, which naturally lowers stress. It’s like telling your brain, “We’ve got this.” Total power move.
3. Reduces Decision Fatigue
Stacks of paper, scattered supplies, a dozen sticky notes—each one represents a tiny decision. When everything has a home, you’re not constantly deciding what to do with all that visual clutter.
4. Easier to Start + Stop Work
When your space is clean, there’s less resistance to getting started—and it’s easier to “close up shop” when you’re done, which helps with work/life balance. No stressy piles staring you down after hours.
5. Encourages Clear Thinking
Your outer world reflects your inner world, and vice versa. When your workspace is clean, your thoughts tend to feel more organized, too. You think clearer, work better, and feel more at ease.
Basically, a clutter-free workspace helps you breathe easier and work smarter. It’s like setting the stage for creativity, productivity, and peace. Want to talk setup ideas or styling a workspace that actually feels inspiring? I'm totally in.
There are many spaces in your home, and we're betting some of those spaces need to be de-cluttered. Your mental health, and sanity depend on it. Give us a call and we can help you tackle and all of these spaces. After all, your home shouldn't cause you stress it should give you joy.

Fridge Organization

Last week we got you ready to go with Spring cleaning tips and tricks. Now,  let's get into the details a bit and talk about your Fridge.
Organizing your fridge not only keeps things tidy but also helps reduce food waste and makes meal prep easier. Here's how to do it step by step:
1. Prepare for Organization
  • Empty the Fridge: Take everything out, including shelves and drawers, for a thorough cleaning.
  • Clean Surfaces: Wipe down all shelves, walls, and drawers with warm, soapy water or a vinegar solution.
2. Categorize Items
  • Group Similar Items: Sort food into categories, such as dairy, condiments, beverages, fruits, vegetables, and leftovers.
  • Check Expiration Dates: Discard expired or spoiled items.
Picture
3. Optimize Storage by Zones
Different areas of the fridge have varying temperatures, so organize food accordingly:
  • Top Shelves (Consistent Temperature): Store ready-to-eat items like leftovers, beverages, or deli meats.
  • Middle Shelves: Keep dairy products such as milk, cheese, and yogurt.
  • Bottom Shelves (Coldest): Store raw meat, fish, and poultry in a sealed container to prevent leaks.
  • Crisper Drawers: Use one drawer for fruits and another for vegetables to maintain proper humidity levels.
  • Door Shelves (Warmest): Store condiments, juices, and water. Avoid keeping perishable items like milk or eggs here.
Picture
4. Use Storage Solutions
  • Clear Bins: Group similar items together in labeled clear bins for easy access.
  • Lazy Susan: Use a spinning tray for condiments to reach everything without digging.
  • Egg Tray: If your fridge doesn’t have an egg compartment, use a dedicated egg holder.
  • Drawer Liners: Add liners to crisper drawers to absorb moisture and keep them clean.
5. Label and Date
  • Use labels or markers to mark expiration dates on leftovers and perishable items.
  • Store leftovers in clear containers to make them visible and easy to identify.
6. Maintain Order
  • FIFO (First In, First Out): Place older items in front so they’re used before newer ones.
  • Weekly Check: Dedicate a time to check the fridge, discard expired items, and reorganize if needed.
7. Bonus Tips
  • Don’t Overcrowd: Allow space for air circulation to keep food evenly cooled.
  • Avoid Storing Hot Foods: Let food cool to room temperature before placing it in the fridge.
  • Keep Similar Shapes Together: Use stackable containers for a uniform and tidy look.
Picture
Example Layout
  • Top Shelf: Beverages, leftovers, meal prep containers.
  • Middle Shelf: Dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt).
  • Bottom Shelf: Raw meat (in a tray to catch drips).
  • Crisper Drawers: Fruits in one drawer, vegetables in the other.
  • Door Shelves: Condiments, sauces, butter, and juices.
With these tips, your fridge will stay organized and efficient!

Spring into Organization

The birds are singing, the sun’s shining a little brighter, and you know what that means — Spring has sprung! And here at Revive with Style, we’re all about giving your home the same fresh, feel-good vibes the season brings.
Let’s talk Spring Organizing — because nothing says "new season, new me" like a clutter-free closet and a pantry that doesn’t resemble a snack avalanche.
Why Spring and Organizing are a Perfect Match
Winter hibernation is officially over, and it’s time to revive your space (see what we did there?). With warmer days ahead, we’re swapping fuzzy socks for flip-flops and holiday décor for beach bags. There’s no better time to declutter, reorganize, and refresh.
✅ More daylight = more energy to tackle projects
✅ Warmer weather = time to rotate seasonal gear
✅ Clearer spaces = clearer mind (and way less stress)
Picture
Here is Your Your Fun + Easy Spring Organizing Checklist
Step 1: Out with the Old
Before we organize, we declutter. Grab your favorite playlist (we recommend something upbeat), a few bags, and start sorting. Ask yourself:
  • When’s the last time I actually used this?
  • Does this still fit my style (or my life)?
  • Would I miss this if it disappeared?
Create three piles: Keep, Donate, Toss — and don’t overthink it.

Step 2: Seasonal Swap Time
Spring is all about the big switcheroo — cozy winter stuff goes into hibernation, and warm-weather goodies take center stage.
-Pack away heavy coats & boots
-Rotate pantry staples (hot cocoa → iced tea)
-Make space for outdoor gear (picnic blankets, anyone?)

Step 3: Storage Glow-Up
This is where the Revive with Style magic comes in. We love:
-Clear bins (so you can see your stuff)
-Cute labels (because being organized can still be stylish)
-Space-saving hacks (like drawer dividers and door organizers)
Picture
Hotspots You Don’t Want to Skip
Closets: Time for a spring wardrobe refresh — goodbye puffy coats, hello flowy dresses. Bonus points if you color-coordinate!
Garage: Sports gear, gardening tools, and bikes — all need a little love and organization.
Kitchen & Pantry: Expired snacks? Random holiday cookie sprinkles? Time to edit and refresh.
Entryway: Create a "grab-and-go" station for sunnies, sunscreen, and reusable bags.
Pro Tip: Create Zones (It’s Like Organizing with a Twist)
Think of your home as a set of mini stations — each with its own purpose. It’s like giving your stuff a VIP section.
Entryway = shoes, keys, bags
Pantry = snacks, dinner staples, baking gear
Bathroom = everyday essentials, backup stock, cleaning supplies
This way, everyone (yes, even the kids) knows where things go — and where to put them back. Magic!
Celebrate Every Little Win
Spring organizing doesn’t need to be all work and no play. Tackle one spot at a time (hello, junk drawer!) and celebrate each small victory with a treat — maybe a fancy coffee or a guilt-free online shopping spree (for bins, of course).

Want a little Revive with Style hands-on help? Whether you need us to roll up our sleeves with you or guide you virtually, we’re ready to turn your clutter into calm — all with style, of course.

Space Planning Tips

3/14/2025

Creating a functional and aesthetically pleasing space in your home starts with thoughtful space planning. This involves considering key elements such as sight lines, traffic patterns, and usability to ensure the design supports both the form and function of your lifestyle. Here's how to approach it:
Sight lines: Maximizing Visual Flow
Sight lines refer to what you see as you move through your home or sit in different spaces. A well-designed layout ensures that sight lines remain clear, promoting a sense of openness and calm. Consider the following tips:
  • Avoid Visual Clutter: Keep large furniture pieces away from doorways and windows to prevent obstructing natural light and views.
  • Highlight Focal Points: Arrange furniture to draw attention to architectural features like fireplaces, large windows, or artwork. For example, position seating to face a picture window or a statement wall.
  • Balance Proportions: Use appropriately scaled furniture to prevent a room from feeling crowded. Overly large pieces can dominate the view, while too-small pieces may leave the space feeling sparse.
Picture
This living space create the perfect focal point. The custom wood detailing to the ceiling draws your eye and fills the space perfectly.
Traffic Patterns: Ensuring Easy Navigation
Traffic patterns dictate how people move through a room. A good layout prioritizes comfort and avoids bottlenecks. Here are some considerations:
  • Maintain Clear Pathways: Ensure there is at least 30-36 inches of clearance between furniture pieces in high-traffic areas, such as between a coffee table and a sofa or around dining tables.
  • Plan for Entry Points: Keep doorways and entrances unobstructed. Avoid placing large furniture right in the path of entry.
  • Zoning: In open-concept spaces, use area rugs, lighting, or furniture arrangements to define zones, ensuring the flow between them remains natural.
Picture
In this living room there are clear zones: Couches for lounging, an armchair for reading and a small table to game play, puzzling, or homework.
Usability: Supporting Daily Function
Usability focuses on how well a space works for your daily needs. Your home should cater to your routines and habits while making it easy to keep the space organized and comfortable.
  • Prioritize Comfort: Arrange seating with conversations and activities in mind. For example, in a living room, ensure sofas and chairs face each other to foster interaction.
  • Accessible Storage: Incorporate storage solutions that are easy to reach and suit your specific needs. Ottomans with hidden storage, built-in shelves, or multifunctional furniture can maximize utility without sacrificing style.
  • Adaptability: Opt for flexible furniture arrangements to accommodate different activities. Modular sofas, extendable dining tables, or stackable chairs are excellent options.
Picture
This room prioritizes comfort and conversation with it's cozy seating arrangement.
Blending Form and Function
While functionality is critical, aesthetics should not be overlooked. A cohesive design ties together the practical elements of space planning with your personal style:
  • Layer Textures and Colors: Use textiles, rugs, and pillows to create depth and warmth. Ensure these elements complement the furniture and décor.
  • Incorporate Vertical Space: Utilize walls for shelving, art, or lighting to free up floor space and add visual interest.
  • Experiment with Layouts: Don’t hesitate to test different furniture arrangements. Sometimes a slight shift can dramatically improve the feel of a room.
Picture
This space blends many styles and takes advantage of vertical storage. As a result the space feels warm and inviting.
Final Thoughts
Successful space planning requires a balance between aesthetics and practicality. By focusing on sight lines, traffic patterns, and usability, you can create a home that is not only visually appealing but also comfortable and functional for everyday living. Whether you’re refreshing a single room or planning an entire home, these principles provide a solid foundation for your design journey and Revive With Style can help you execute your newly revived space!

This client reached out to us while relocating from out of state, feeling overwhelmed by all the decisions and moving parts involved in the process. Their previous home was much smaller than their new one, and they planned to bring a significant amount of furniture with them.
They needed our help with three key things: determining the best placement for their existing furniture, selecting paint colors for specific areas of the home, and creating cohesive spaces that blended new pieces with what they already had.
After a quick consultation call, we scheduled an in-person visit to their new home. During the walkthrough, we measured each space and discussed their goals for every room. They provided us with a full inventory of their furniture, and from there—we got to work!

Each floor plan shows were their existing pieces should go along with the new items that we have specified in the design boards below.
Our clients loved pops of color hear and there, and from looking at their art  and furniture inventory, we quickly got a feel for their style.

Here the client was keeping their dining table, and upholstered dining chairs.

Knowing that they were keeping their existing flooring and kitchen cabinets, for now, we chose a light to match the dining room and other complimentary pieces for the kitchen nook.

This space included the most existing pieces. A few items like this sofa and beautiful rug, tie everything together.
After our client had digested our plans - next came move-in day! Of course, there was some tweaking and adjustments to be made but we saved our clients LOADS of time spent worrying and wondering where everything would go.
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!
For the final phase of our move-in services, we were invited back to unpack their kitchen.  At this point in their move, they were exhausted and simply ready to enjoy their home.

During this process of unpacking, we checked in with our clients to understand a few wants and needs. (ie; Where do you prefer your coffee maker to be? Do you use a lot of your glassware daily? How often are you baking?) This way we can put items in places that are conducive to the way they live. As we all know, everyone uses their kitchen differently!

Once we're finished, we walked our clients through everything to explain were their items were.

Elements of a Kids' Bedroom

Designing an effective and engaging children’s bedroom involves a nuanced balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal, fostering an environment conducive to both play and development. Central considerations include the strategic use of color, spaces for displaying keepsakes, playful and inspiring artwork, purposeful lighting, and versatile storage systems. Together, these elements create a personalized, dynamic space that meets the needs of both child and caregiver
Colorful Elements
The use of color is integral to setting the mood and energy of a child’s room. Bold, vibrant tones can stimulate creativity and enthusiasm, while muted pastels help cultivate a tranquil and restful environment—particularly valuable for encouraging better sleep patterns. A thoughtful approach to color integrates striking accents, such as patterned rugs, colorful bed linens, or a feature wall adorned with decals or murals. By keeping the primary furniture pieces neutral, the room remains adaptable to the child’s evolving tastes over time.

Spaces for Keepsake Displays
Children often accumulate sentimental objects—whether trophies, artwork, or memorabilia from family outings—that play a role in their identity formation. Incorporating display areas like floating shelves, shadow boxes, or corkboards ensures these items are both celebrated and organized. Such arrangements can imbue the space with a sense of ownership and pride, while teaching children to care for and curate their belongings.

Inspiring Artwork
Artwork provides a unique opportunity to infuse a child’s bedroom with personality and thematic focus. Consider options like vibrant prints, whimsical illustrations, or interactive chalkboard and magnetic walls that allow for hands-on engagement. Tailoring the artwork to the child’s current interests—whether animals, space exploration, or fantasy themes—can spark imagination and make the space feel deeply personal. The flexibility of removable decals or easily updated pieces ensures that the decor remains relevant as the child matures.

Functional and Aesthetic Lighting
Lighting is a critical yet often underestimated aspect of bedroom design. A bedside lamp, for instance, should be both practical and engaging. Quirky designs—such as animal-themed bases, rocket ship shapes, or soft, ambient models—can double as decorative features while providing a sense of comfort during nighttime. A well-placed lamp fosters independence by enabling children to control their immediate environment, whether for bedtime reading or creating a soothing atmosphere.
Diverse Storage Solutions
Effective storage systems form the backbone of a well-organized children’s room. A combination of open and closed storage caters to varying needs: open bins and baskets simplify toy cleanup, while cabinets and drawers conceal clutter, maintaining a streamlined appearance. Under-bed storage is particularly useful for seasonal items or less frequently used belongings. Incorporating labels, color-coded systems, or clearly defined zones can make organization more intuitive, empowering children to participate in maintaining their space.
When these elements are carefully integrated, the result is a children’s bedroom that functions as both a sanctuary and a hub for activity. Such a space supports the child’s creativity and individuality while also easing the logistical challenges faced by parents. Ultimately, a well-designed kids’ room is one that evolves gracefully alongside its occupant, offering both aesthetic appeal and practical solutions.
